Hempcrete ! Can Change The Way We Build Everything

CNN report on eco friendly sustainable hemp house built in Asheville, NC. Benefits include carbon negative construction, breathability, and reduced cost of heating and cooling.

Imagine you had a building material that was energy-efficient, non-toxic and resistant to mold, insects and fire. The material may even have a higher R-value, or thermal resistance, than concrete, a claim that is still being investigated.

The only problem? The base of the Hempcrete creation is hemp, which comes from the cannabis sativa plant -- the same one that produces marijuana, which is a federally banned substance. Because of this, industrial hemp production is illegal in the United States.

  1. So if hemp is illegal in the u.s. how were they able to build it in North Carolina?

  2. Marijuana and hemp are different varieties of the same species of plant, Cannabis sativa L. There are different varieties of Cannabis, just as Chihuahuas and wolves are different breeds of Canis lupus. They are scientifically different and cultivated in different ways.

  3. You can get hemp from mexico and canada, or from other parts of the world where it is legal to cultivate. Hemp products are legal, it is the ownership of hemp, and the manufacturing of the products, etc, that is illegal.

Here is some more information you can read because it will enlighten your mind and offer new perspectives on just how powerful hemp is, and why it is illegal. Learn Here: http://goo.gl/i8SoX

  5. There's nothing to investigate, it will definitely have a better "R" value than concrete! Put your foot on an uninsulated concrete floor, or against a concrete wall ... the heat literally gets sucked out of your body to the point where if gets painful. Once concrete gets damp the "heat sink" effect is even worse.
